Islamic radicalism keeps bloodying Europe. From Paris to London, from Vienna to Oslo, extremist attacks continue. Violence and terrorism are born and thrive in the extremist Islamist ideology that is spread throughout Europe undisturbed.

Yet, many people in Europe continue to ignore the problem. Among them, there are certainly not included the European conservatives, who have always spoken openly about the need to challenge Islamist proselytism.

I therefore welcome the initiative organized today by the ECR Group in the European Parliament, “The Muslim Brotherhood in Europe”, which has the merit of dealing with an “uncomfortable” topic and drawing attention to how European governments and EU institutions can best fight the propaganda of the Muslim Brotherhood, as an integral part of policies to tackle terrorism and radicalization. It is Europe’s duty to ensure freedom, security and respect for the rights that are the basis of our culture and identity.
