The Council of European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR Party), meeting in Rome, unanimously approved the proposal by the Vice-President of the European Parliament Roberts Zile to renew the mandate of President Giorgia Meloni, who accepted with the next European elections as the horizon, and the Vice-Presidents Jorge Buxadè (Vox, Spain) and Radoslaw Fogiel (PiS, Poland).
Following the meeting, coordinated by Secretary General Antonio Giordano, the Council indicated Gila Gamliel, Minister of Intelligence of the Israeli government and responsible for foreign affairs of Likud, as Deputy Vice-President representing the non-EU partner parties of the ECR.
In the course of her report, Meloni congratulated “for the growth achieved in all the recent electoral appointments by the national parties adhering to the ECR, which bodes well for a strong affirmation of the conservative family in the next European elections on 9 June 2024” . Particular attention was paid to the forthcoming electoral appointments in Spain and Poland but also to the key issues on the European political agenda.
“The concreteness of the Conservatives will be even more decisive in addressing crucial issues for the future of our continent, starting with the response to Russian aggression against Ukraine, the fight against irregular immigration and a pragmatic and non-ideological ecological transition,” Meloni said at the end of her speech.
