The European Conservatives and Reformists Party welcomes the inauguration of Joseph Biden as the 46th President of the United States of America.
The ECR Party does so in the spirit of the transatlantic alliance for which it has strongly defended since its founding. We are proud of the fact that we are the political alliance with the closest ties to America. Such a position which defines our activities regardless of which party holds the majority in the Congress or runs the U.S. administration from the White House.
Former President Ronald Reagan described the core of U.S. democratic system as: “Nothing short of a miracle” in his inauguration address in 1981. He said this at a time in which democracy around the world was under siege from communism and authoritarianism.
The European Conservatives and Reformists were founded on those same principles as Ronald Reagan, of promoting economic liberty, the rule of law, the preservation of traditional values, the defence of freedom and upholding the strength of the transatlantic alliance.
We will follow the work of the incoming administration with interest, and contribute to the debate in a constructive way when possible. Equally we will remain committed to supporting the work of our Republican Party allies on a global, federal, state and local level.
